Looking back on 2014, planning for 2015

At this time of year we like to take some time as a team at Crawford Childcare to think about what we really enjoyed and found worthwhile in the year gone by to help us make plans for the upcoming year. We would love your input so please share in the comments or let any of our team know your thoughts.

Time is whizzing by. Can you believe its 2015?? Let’s slow down for a moment and think about what we would like 2015 to mean for the children here in Crawford Childcare, Glanmire. We really want your input so please share!!

To help focus your thoughts we have put together a short monthly review of 2014:

January 2014
In January we explored our hopes and set goals as a team. We also introduced parent/ teacher meetings for the children in the Montessori to help with the decision of whether your child is school ready. We worked closely with the local primary schools in the area on this to help us look for their wish list of attributes they are looking for as a basis for these. These had positive feedback but please remember a sit down meeting can be arranged for any parents with their child’s keyworker to get an update on your child’s progress any time throughout the year which ever room your child is in – just ring Sarah to set up an appointment.

February 2014
In February we celebrated Spring and love was certainly in the air around Valentine’s day. We also encouraged the children to let us know what they love! Such a big emotion which a big range of answers from “I love my bike” to “I love the warm feeling when mum gives hugs”.

March 2014
In March we took part in National Pyjama Day and raised a whooping 459.81e for the Irish Hospice Foundation!! Thanks so much for all the generous contributions. The place turned green this month as we paraded around the building and outside areas for St Patrick’s Day waving sticks and shouting “Be gone snakes!”

April 2014
In April we set up egg hunts and nature trails galore.

May 2014
In May we celebrated Summer. The Montessori’s had their school tour to Tir Na Si and visited our adopted horse Oreo! There were a few showers but it didn’t dampen anyone’s spirits and a great day was had by all.

June 2014
The end of our ECCE year and a very important Graduation ceremony for everyone going on to school. One of our children missed it due to his holidays so we did it all again for the toddlers and had another party!

July 2014
Summer camp begins and things were starting to heat up. Lots of outside time for everyone and the babies were really grateful for their shaded area. Phew!

August 2014
The good weather continued for the beginning of August even with the onset of Autumn. Things got a little wetter towards the end of the month so it was time to start to using our wellies again for outside time. We also had our open day for the parents and children who would be starting their new ECCE year in September.

September 2014
Always a busy month as we welcomed lots of new faces!!

October 2014
Things got a little bit spooky in the creche. Witches, warlocks, ghosts and ghouls all visited as we played bobbing apples, wrap the mummy, trick and treat, ghostly dances and lots more. Halloween is always a favourite here – we love dressing up! We also took part in breakfast together week in aid of Childline and raised 327.67e.

November 2014
We signed up to become accredited as a health promoting service. This has taken a bit of work and we are due to be assessed in May 2015 so we will let you know how we do. It has given us lots of new ideas for the curriculum and we are especially excited about the well-being components – more on this to follow as we are hoping to host a parent information evening on this soon as part of our assessment – your support will be greatly appreciated.

December 2014
Our Christmas play “Christmas Around the World” was a great success for the Montessori class. The whole month was very festive as we made wish lists for Santa, played lots of seasonal games and even had a visit from Santa and his elves!

Hope you all enjoyed 2014 as much as we did. We are all looking forward to 2015!!
