A trip to Athlone

A trip to Athlone

Last Saturday morning Sarah, Cathy and Karen headed off to Athlone to represent Crawford Childcare in accepting our Healthy Ireland Smart Start Award. This was part of the process which commenced last year where the programme was delivered over 21 hours for 7 weeks. The programme consisted of 6 units ; Health Promotion, Emotional Well Being/Literacy, Physical Activity, Nutrition, Oral Health and Health and Safety for children aged three to five.

On Saturday Crawford Childcare were among 190 centres across Ireland to receive this award. Cork was very well represented on the day as it was the County with the most representatives present. We also took this opportunity to showcase our implementation of the Smart Start Programme here in our service. This is evident everyday throughout Crawford Childcare with our interactions with our children and parents and how we promote positive healthy behaviours across the service.

The morning was spent chatting with and sharing ideas with other Early Years Educators. Tucker proved to be very popular also with people taking a minute or two to read his story and enjoyed listening to the stories of his weekend trips to his friend’s houses.

Crawford Childcare continually strive to improve the quality of our service as best we can and are delighted to receive this recognition from National Childhood Network that our preschool service is a health promoting service.
