Hula Hoops, Footballs, Dinosaurs, Watermelons and Grapes – Look what Crawford Childcare have been up to this week

As the saying goes “time flies when you are having fun”. This is certainly true for the Montessori class at Crawford Childcare in Glanmire. We are a little over half way through our summer camps. We can hardly believe it. We are enjoying a wide range of outdoor activities which include hula hooping, football, balancing games, parachute games, bubble chases. There could be a footballer or two in the making amongst the class or even a professional hula hooper.
We have also had plenty of indoor activities this week when we have needed to take some shelter from the sun. We have decorated our class with watermelon suncatchers. They have added a nice warm glow to our room in the afternoon sun. We really enjoyed making these sun catchers as it was very messy play mixing hair gel and red food colouring together in a zip lock bag. We had to be very carefully to ensure the red dye stayed in the bag. Cathy needed a bit more practice with this activity as she managed to cover her hands with the red dye which lead to Adam asking her “how did you get blood on your hands?” and Grace asking “how did you hurt yourself?”. Thankfully it was only red food colouring. Caught red handed springs to mind.
In the Toddler Room this week dinosaur tee shirts have been popular as they have been roaring like dinosaurs. During circle time they have looked at the different types of dinosaurs and practicing saying their names. This has come in handy when they have been playing their dinosaur matching game.
In the Baby Room, the group have been experimenting with tasting fruit. Surprisingly enough the lemon brought mixed reactions. Amelie was very cautious eating it whereas Peig was quick to let us know she didn’t like it. The melon and grapes were very popular with the group. The girls have also been showing the group pictures of fruit while saying the names of the fruit.
