Is your child happy in creche?
Here at Crawford Childcare, Glanmire we understand that starting in a crèche environment can be stressful for both the parents and the child. We find that parents of children often take longer to relax and trust their child’s teachers than the children themselves. This is especially true when the child has not yet developed more than a few words and is unable to give you a rundown of their day.
We like to get to know your child’s individual interests and incorporate these into the curriculum to help make them feel part of the service but how can a parent be sure a service is a good fit for their child?
It can take time for a child to settle fully into a crèche. The time period for adjusting varies between children depending on the children’s personality and temperament. Some children do not look over their shoulder as their parent says goodbye. Others may take up to 8 weeks before they come into us smiling. However it is very often the case that children who have difficulty separating at drop off are happy and secure minutes after.
So what to look for? Look for clues that your child has been calmly interacting throughout the day with both the adults and children. If your child appears visibly happy and content when you collect him he is probably adjusting well.
At Crawford Childcare, Glanmire we have an open policy which invites parents to visit the service at any time during opening hours to make sure their child is happy and well cared for. Visits can be unannounced and at different times and our code system allows parents to have access to their child’s room without needing to be met by a staff member at the front door. Finding your child in good form and safe will help allay any fears you may have.
Visits to the service may not mean you intend to collect your child – perhaps you just want a quick peek in on your lunch break. Staff in the service are used to parents taking a peek through the car park and room windows. As many of us are parents ourselves we fully understand the need for this.
Of course you can telephone the service at any time and talk to your child’s direct care giver as well. The staff are always available to let you know how your child is doing and will work with you to ensure your child’s happiness at Crawford Childcare, Glanmire. If you have any questions regarding your child’s development or any other queries please do not hesitate to contact your child’s keyworker.
