Here in Crawford Childcare, Glanmire the Montessori children have been cantering across the field in their wellies as their interest in horses develop. We have been talking about Oreo of course as well as horses we have met on family trips and holidays. We even made horse food that children could eat from Cheerios, Shreddies and apples. We have learned the parts of a horse and have been practising the different sounds that a horse makes.

We have also started making plans for Graduation with the children and have spoken about our transition to big school and what we may like to be when we are bigger. It was nice to hear some of the suggestions included being kind and being a nice person but there are also more than a few aspiring Garda, firepersons, doctors, nurses and teachers in our midst. Following on from this we are inviting members of our community into our classroom so we can learn more about their professions. First to visit is our local community Garda on Wednesday 21st May around 10 o’clock. If you would like to come in and talk about what you do please talk to any member of the Montessori team.

The toddlers have been busy little bumble bees of late. We have learned that bees collect nectar and take it back to their hives to make honey. Unexpectedly the toddlers were fascinated by a large honey bubble in the the jar of honey the toddler team had brought in for tasting. They carefully experimented in turning the jar to make the bubble rise and fall. Eventually we got to taste it after the toddlers made honey toast which was very sticky fun! Some of us were more interested in the toast than the honey but most tried it. We also learned a new song:

Buzz buzz buzz buzz
Buzzy bee buzzy bee
Sting who you like
But don’t sting me

But don’t sting me

The babies have been making daisy handprints and spending lots of time outside in the very welcome sunshine. We have been very busy splashing as the baby team have been introducing water play to our babies.

The warmer is great to see but please ensure your child remains safe in the sun. Don’t forget to bring in their sun hats and sun cream!
