Valentine’s Day
Love is in the air as we all celebrated Valentine’s Day. Here in Crawford we are exploring the emotion that is love. Teaching children all about love will help them develop positive attitudes towards themselves, friends and family. You can show a child how to love by showing affection with hugs, kisses and kind words. It’s important to praise your children regularly it is not just for succeeding, but for who they are and what they are doing (efforts and attempts). Even if your toddler doesn’t manage to do exactly what they set out to do, saying things such as “The way you tried hard to put those bricks together was great” will encourage them to have another go. This help builds a child’s self-love and self esteem.
Your opinion means a lot to your child. If you believe your child can succeed, they will believe they can as well. It is also important to build their independence by giving them responsibilities as soon as they can handle them. Most importantly show love by saying “I love you”.
This week we made our Valentines hearts. Robyn, Daniel and Mia put glue on their heart shapes and then stuck on red crepe paper. Daniel did his best to keep his hands free, while Robyn enjoyed the feel of the glue on her hands and saying “it’s all sticky”. Tess Seamus, Aine and James coloured their hearts in red first, before adding the glitter. Everyone enjoyed shaking the glitter all over their hearts. Aine said “it’s all shiny and sparkly”.
Barney’s Song - the most famous love song of all!
I love you, you love me We’re a happy family
With a great big hug and a kiss from me to you.
Won't you say you love me too?
I love you, You love me We’re best friends like friends should be
With a great big hug and a kiss from me to you.
Won't you say you love me too?
