Anyone for a story?

Anyone for a story?   We love fairy tales at Crawford Childcare. One of our favourites in the baby room at the moment is “The Gingerbread Man”. While our toddlers always ask for “The Three Little Pigs”. The Montessori children are divided between “Cinderella” and “Little Red Riding Hood.” What’s your Favourite fairy tale? We would love for you to let us know or perhaps some parents would like to come in to lead a story telling session?? Let us know if you are interested! Children of all ages love stories and love to listen to them. Story telling is an interactive art that has cognitive, social, emotional and…

Play and learn at Crawford

Play and learn at Crawford Here at Crawford Childcare , part of our philosophy is to help children to learn to socialise and communicate with both adults and their peers. Children learn many of their social skills through play. At Crawford Childcare, Glanmire the children play outdoors as often as possible and they especially enjoy water and sand play. Here is an insight into one of our Toddler teams observations. We hope you enjoy it! James decided to play at the water table. He knows that he must wear a protective apron when playing with water and asked an adult to help him. He happily played by himself with the…

Arts and Crafts

Arts and Crafts   Recently in the toddler room we had some messy fun painting on a large roll of paper, generously donated to us by Spohia’s mum – thank you! We covered two tables with the paper and we also upcycled some plastic containers and paper tubes that the children had brought in. Arts and crafts are part of the many daily activities here at Crawford Childcare in Glanmire. The children have lots of fun and the activities are more than just to develop their creativity. Arts and crafts can also aid their cognitive, physical, language, social and emotional development. Robyn pressed very hard with both hands…

Do you want to build a snowman?

Do you want to build a snowman? Snow arrived in Cork last week and even though it was only for a short while it was all very exciting. All the children in Crawford were excited to see the snow outside. Abigail, Maya and Harry tried to make snow angels when there was only a thin layer of snow. Maya even made a small snowman in her hands. Everyone was excited to be out on Tuesday when the snow first started to fall. However Robyn and Lucy did not like the feel of the snow falling and wanted to go inside but enjoyed a window seat and ventured out again after the snow…

New Year’s Resolutions

New Year’s Resolutions January is always a good time to consider what we could improve from last year for the upcoming year. At Crawford Childcare  in Glanmire we also encourage the children to talk about what they could do in the preschool environment to help themselves and to help their peers. By involving the children in deciding their own New Year resolutions they become more motivated and confident. This is how they take ownership of their goals and learn to plan. The process of starting and completing something provides the child with a sense of achievement. These resolutions should be simple in task and achievable. Examples of such…

Christmas is approaching

Christmas is approaching   Christmas is fast approaching and excitement is building up here in Crawford. We have a countdown started in all three rooms. In the baby room they have a Santa on the door with their countdown. In the toddler room we have chain links and we watch each day as the links get shorter as we take one of each day. The montessori’s have their Santa in the main hall that we are filling in each day with cotton wool to fill up Santa’s beard. Santa will be arriving in Crawford Childcare in Glanmire on Thursday 18th of December. The toddlers are all excited with…

Life is a song and a dance at Crawford Childcare

Life is a song and a dance at Crawford Childcare At Crawford Childcare, Glanmire we all love to sing and dance. None of the teachers will be the next Mariah or Celine but we like to think we all have the X factor. The children seem to enjoy joining in or maybe they are really trying to show us how it is done! Whether it is “All the rain drops” or “Do you want to build a snowman” we will give it a go. Even those of us who are not quite walking yet are well able to boogey and wiggle those hips. Singing is a great way for the children to express themselves and…

Our Puppet Theatre

Our Puppet Theatre Every week as your refuse is collected – spare a thought for all those discarded cardboard boxes. They can be useful! So, rather than just ignoring that big cardboard box I saw in the staffroom, I decided to give it a chance – a chance at a bright new future and a chance at being a star! The puppet stage was initially meant to be a “news window” where the children could sit down, draw back the curtains and talk about any news they had. This worked for a while but the children soon lost interest. It wasn’t until Maya commented “it looks like a…

There’s more to fancy dress than you think!

There’s more to fancy dress than you think! We all had had a busy time last week dressing up for Halloween. It was great to see all the different costumes and the bright colours. All the children were delighted to show off their outfits to their friends. Dress up and role playing is an important part of child development in Crawford Childcare in Glanmire. It helps children develop all five areas of development such as their physical, cognitive, social, emotional and language. Dress up allows the children to dress up as their favourite superhero, princes and princesses, fairies or even every day workers such as doctors, nurses, firemen, or gardai. Dress up allows…

Halloween is coming

Halloween is coming So Halloween is fast approaching and we all know what that means? Christmas is only around the corner –ha ha ! Only joking we love Halloween here at Crawford Childcare, Glanmire. Its such a nice time to introduce our children to the joys of dressing up be it scary, funny or nice. Though sometimes we may think Halloween is all about sweets and trick or treating there is actually a lot more to it. Halloween is the second most celebrated holiday. Pumpkins and the carving of them originated in Ireland. People believed that placing a candle in them would keep away ghosts and that carving…
