Hula Hoops, Footballs, Dinosaurs, Watermelons and Grapes – Look what Crawford Childcare have been up to this week

Hula Hoops, Footballs, Dinosaurs, Watermelons and Grapes – Look what Crawford Childcare have been up to this week As the saying goes “time flies when you are having fun”. This is certainly true for the Montessori class at Crawford Childcare in Glanmire. We are a little over half way through our summer camps. We can hardly believe it. We are enjoying a wide range of outdoor activities which include hula hooping, football, balancing games, parachute games, bubble chases. There could be a footballer or two in the making amongst the class or even a professional hula hooper. We have also had plenty of indoor activities this week when we have needed to take some shelter from the sun. We have decorated our class…

Indoor Play: imagination, learning & fun!

Indoor Play: imagination, learning & fun! We all know when living in Ireland our summer may only last a week or two and then we are back to high rainfall or we can even get the four seasons in one day. You look out the window to see that it’s raining during these summer months so what activities can you do with young children. There’s no need to struggle for money to take the children out to the cinema or activity centres, in your home there is so much to do with not spending a single cent. Here are some ideas for imaginative indoor play that won’t break the bank. Music…

Our ECCE pre school year has come to an end which we celebrated with a fabulous performance of songs learned over the year, our graduation ceremony and party. I think we will all be singing our show’s finale Firework for a while courtesy of Katy Perry: Cause baby you’re a firework Come on and show them what you’re worth Make em go, Aah aah aah As you shoot across the sky-y-y Baby you’re a firework Come on and let your colours burst Make ‘em go, Aah aah aah You’re gonna leave…

The Latest in Crawford

The Latest in Crawford If you are a regular follower of us on Facebook you will know that everyone in the crèche has been learning about different careers and professions recently. First to visit Crawford Childcare crèche was Garda Noel. We learned about bike safety, car safety and who to go to if we ever get lost in a shop. Some of our aspiring Gardas got to try on Noel’s hat and handcuffs. We then got to work making our own Garda hats, badges and cars. Second to visit the crèche was Firefighter Fiona. She has to do a lot of training just to carry her helmet and jacket.…

The Latest in Crawford Childcare

The Latest in Crawford Childcare Spring has definitely sprung in Crawford Childcare crèche, Glanmire. March is a fun month including Pancake Day, St Patrick’s Day, Mother’s Day and more. The weather has turned brighter (well mostly) and there is a definite lengthening in the day now which means more outdoor play is available to all the rooms. Please dress appropriately as our little explorers have been rather taken with mud play of late. Wellies are advised and ensure your child has a spare set of clothes so we do not have to limit their play in anyway. So much learning can take place outdoors digging and filling containers, collecting and…

The Latest in Crawford

The Latest in Crawford The babies have been exploring their musical sides recently. A music station was made by our team which included drums, home made shakers, pots, pans and spoons. The music consisting of our babies’ voices and clatters have even been heard in our car park at times. The toddlers have been doing lots of activities around the alphabet and colours. It has been especially fun to mix colours. One of our toddlers was really excited to find that she could make a “Barney” colour by mixing red and blue paint. After this discovery she then painted her arms up to her elbow because she wanted to…

Into the New Year at Crawford Childcare

Into the New Year at Crawford Childcare With Christmas well and truly over we find ourselves well into the New Year. Most of our mums and dads are back to work and so are our little learners at Crawford Childcare. The babies have been learning about farm animals. Staff and babies have been heard quacking, mooing and bleating to tunes like Old MacDonald. Activities have included farm story time, farm jigsaws, small world play and the making of animal masks. The babies and staff have also been jumping around to music to dance off the Christmas chocolate eaten over the holidays. Helicopters seem to have been a popular Santa gift this year.…

Creative Painting Ideas at Crawford Childcare

Creative Painting Ideas at Crawford Childcare In a blog last month we focused on Creative Painting Ideas we use in the setting at Crawford Childcare. Once we got started we realised that we actually do much more than one blog can cover. So here is part 2… Textured painting Paints come in every colour but are usually the same smooth texture. Sometimes we like to add materials to the paint to increase the sensorial experience in painting. Sand and glitter mixed into the palette with the paint creates interesting effects when painted with. Sometimes we add texture to the painting surface rather than paint. Try painting on sand paper or tin…

Winter comes to Crawford Childcare

Winter comes to Crawford Childcare Brrrrrr….. there has been a definite drop in temperature in the last week or so. Cool, dry and bright spells have meant we are still able to get outside. We believe it is better to learn about the seasons by experiencing them first hand and not just talking about them – although this is important too! Remember there is no such thing as bad weather – just bad clothing. We strongly advise hats, gloves and warm padded jackets. Wellies can ensure little feet are kept dry and cosy too. For the children who are with us in the afternoons the darker evenings mean we can…
