The babies had surprise a visit from our lovely friend Iggy the dog recently. He also brought along Noelle (local vet), Laura (local vet nurse) and Daisy (guinea pig) from Cashman & O'Driscoll vets. The babies were playing outside when Iggy the dog came in. This allowed the children to come in and meet him as they wanted. We were surprised that the children that don’t have dogs or other animals at home were the first in! It was a great experience for the babies as it was some of their first times actually seeing a dog up so close! The children appeared to be…
The toddlers have been talking about cats and often crawl around pretending to be cats. So following this interest the toddlers have set about learning more about them. We have flash cards showing the toddlers what the cats use as furniture such as their beds, bowls and scratching posts. We are discussing what food cats like to eat. Beatriz told us cats like to drink milk. We spoke to some toddlers explaining that cats like to use scratching posts. Seamus kept asking “why” curious to find out more information. Some ideas we came up with included “It feels good” and “Cos they itchy” and “It…
Recently we have been exploring potato stamping with the children in the baby room. This is a new experience for many of the children in this room. We decided to introduce this as some of our babies have shown a sensitivity to using their hands and feet directly. Although interested in the process of watching others doing this there are one or two who just haven’t liked the feel of the paint being directly on their hands and feet. As the babies seem interested in the activity we decided to give using different tools a try and so in came the potatoes!! The baby team…
The toddlers had a very busy month learning all about the butterfly life cycle in Crawford Childcare in Glanmire. We spent a week learning all about caterpillars. The toddlers talked about the colours of the different circles as they enthusiastically glued them together in chains to make their caterpillars. They also enjoyed listening to the story of the hungry caterpillar that Janine read to them. Everyone was very interested and listened carefully to the story. Afterwards the toddlers hoped they would find caterpillars in the garden and so a bug hunt developed. We didn’t find any caterpillars but we did find a few worms! The…
On Monday 16th March the Montessori class explored everything to do with St. Patricks Day in preparation for the real thing the next day. We coloured some flags that we thought would be brilliant to use for our St. Patricks day parade in Our childcare setting in Glanmire. We wanted to include different flags in our parade so some of the children could show what country they came from or maybe where their mommy’s and daddy’s are from. We were all excited to include countries like Spain, Poland, Latvia, Saudi Arabia, Norway, France and India, and the children in the creche were delighted to show…
Pyjama Day is something that we love to do here at Crawford Childcare, Glanmire! We do this to help raise funds for worthy causes. This year at Crawford Childcare we held our National Pyjama Day on the 6th of March in aid of Irish Autism Action and it was a great success as together as we raised a whopping 553.01 euro. We would like to say a Big Thank You to everyone that helped support us on National Pyjama Day and that it was great to see so many people pull together and help support this fundraiser. Pyjama Day is a great day when all…
We love fairy tales at Crawford Childcare. One of our favourites in the baby room at the moment is “The Gingerbread Man”. While our toddlers always ask for “The Three Little Pigs”. The Montessori children are divided between “Cinderella” and “Little Red Riding Hood.” What’s your Favourite fairy tale? We would love for you to let us know or perhaps some parents would like to come in to lead a story telling session?? Let us know if you are interested! Children of all ages love stories and love to listen to them. Story telling is an interactive art that has cognitive, social, emotional and…
Love is in the air as we all celebrated Valentine’s Day. Here in Crawford we are exploring the emotion that is love. Teaching children all about love will help them develop positive attitudes towards themselves, friends and family. You can show a child how to love by showing affection with hugs, kisses and kind words. It’s important to praise your children regularly it is not just for succeeding, but for who they are and what they are doing (efforts and attempts). Even if your toddler doesn’t manage to do exactly what they set out to do, saying things such as “The way you tried hard…
At this time of year we like to take some time as a team at Crawford Childcare to think about what we really enjoyed and found worthwhile in the year gone by to help us make plans for the upcoming year. We would love your input so please share in the comments or let any of our team know your thoughts. Time is whizzing by. Can you believe its 2015?? Let’s slow down for a moment and think about what we would like 2015 to mean for the children here in Crawford Childcare, Glanmire. We really want your input so please share!! To help focus…
Cathy and Ashley have been doing the “Healthy Ireland Smart Start Program” to help improve the health and well-being for the next generation. Oral health was one of the topics we talked about, so here’s what we learned: Children have 20 primary teeth, also known as their baby or milk teeth. These teeth start showing at around 6 months and these can be replaced by adult teeth from the age of 6 onwards. It is very important to teach your child good oral hygiene habits at a young age because this can lead to a lifelong healthy mouth. It is very important to start brushing…
