Taking a look into the Toddler Room

Taking a look into the Toddler Room The toddlers are very busy in their room on a daily basis between circle time, activities, dancing, outdoor play and using their imagination when playing. So what do the toddlers get up to when their Mommies and Daddies are not around? The toddlers enjoy using their imagination and they also look out for each other. We were recently very impressed by the way Zach helped 2 of his friends who had taken a bit of a tumble when they were pretending to be bumper cars and bumped off each other! Zach held out his hand to each of them, helping them to their feet and…

Indoor Play: imagination, learning & fun! We all know when living in Ireland our summer may only last a week or two and then we are back to high rainfall or we can even get the four seasons in one day. You look out the window to see that it’s raining during these summer months so what activities can you do with young children. There’s no need to struggle for money to take the children out to the cinema or activity centres, in your home there is so much to do with not spending a single cent. Here are some ideas for imaginative indoor play that won’t break the bank. Music…

Baby Room Spider Spectacular in Crawford

Baby Room Spider Spectacular in Crawford Lately in the baby room in Crawford Childcare in Cork  there has been a lot of focus on everything to do with spiders. Interests range from Spiderman whom Tiarnan’s brother Cormac brought in for us all to see, to Incy Wincy himself. Robert, Eilish and Amelie have been providing us with some actions for Incy Wincy and the baby room team are all trying to master it as well as this terrific trio. We…

The Importance of Outdoor Play

The Importance of Outdoor Play       “Through a chink too wide comes in no wonder” (Patrick Kavanagh). Lately we have forgotten the importance of playing outdoors and instead focused on rote, academic learning. Nowadays once outdoor play is mentioned, words such as messy, dirty, laundry, illness and unhygienic come to mind which is crazy as we forget the benefits such as teaching children how to; • Help themselves such as tying their coats, fastening their shoes and putting on hats. • Share and take turns as individuals and also part of a group using new materials such as sticks, leaves, bugs and flowers. • Express themselves with the…

Does bullying happen in pre school?

Does bullying happen in pre school?     Bullying behaviour is typically associated with older children. The danger of this is that bullying maybe overlooked in the pre-school years. Pre-schoolers are learning to experiment socially and it is sometimes difficult to differentiate between this and emergent bullying. Bullying may include physical aggression, exclusion, rejection, verbal assaults and ridicule. The odd disagreement or falling out is normal for pre-schoolers. However alarm bells should start ringing if a child appears to enjoy seeing others hurt. Deliberately hurting others whether physically or emotionally is always unacceptable. Bullying can cause stress, fear and anxiety. The behaviour may harm victims’ and perpetrators’ development. If you are…
