Do you want to build a snowman?

Do you want to build a snowman? Snow arrived in Cork last week and even though it was only for a short while it was all very exciting. All the children in Crawford were excited to see the snow outside. Abigail, Maya and Harry tried to make snow angels when there was only a thin layer of snow. Maya even made a small snowman in her hands. Everyone was excited to be out on Tuesday when the snow first started to fall. However Robyn and Lucy did not like the feel of the snow falling and wanted to go inside but enjoyed a window seat and ventured out again after the snow…

We would love your input so please share in the comments or let any of our team know your thoughts. Time is whizzing by. Can you believe its 2015?? Let’s slow down for a moment and think about what we would like 2015 to mean for the children here in Crawford Childcare, Glanmire. We really want your input so please share!! To help focus…

Christmas is approaching

Christmas is approaching   Christmas is fast approaching and excitement is building up here in Crawford. We have a countdown started in all three rooms. In the baby room they have a Santa on the door with their countdown. In the toddler room we have chain links and we watch each day as the links get shorter as we take one of each day. The montessori’s have their Santa in the main hall that we are filling in each day with cotton wool to fill up Santa’s beard. Santa will be arriving in Crawford Childcare in Glanmire on Thursday 18th of December. The toddlers are all excited with…

Good Morning from Crawford Childcare

Good Morning from Crawford Childcare Mornings are busy but a special part of the day at Crawford Childcare. It is lovely to see the children being dropped off by their parents, family members and carers. Most children will stroll in happy and excited to tell us their news. One morning  recently Aoibheann came in wearing her Peppa Pig hat and scarf with Daddy who brought her to the creche in her pink welly boots. She was too busy to say Good Bye to her Daddy. Lucy arrived the same day standing still by the door for a few moments. The staff and friends gave her a big welcome. She gave…

The Montessori Method at Crawford Childcare

The Montessori Method at Crawford Childcare   This week's blog is all about the Montessori Method and how it is carried out within Crawford Childcare, Glanmire. To begin with, here is a little background on Dr Maria Montessori. Dr Maria Montessori (1870 – 1952), born at Chiraville, Italy was Italy’s first female doctor of medicine. Working with children at Rome’s Psychiatric Clinic, she noticed that they sought to learn about their environment through the use of their hands. This idea that the path to intellectual development is through the hands is a major theme in her method of education. Montessori education is a child centred method of education. This method allows…

Help us to create a new outdoor play area Any spare frying pans, old pots or plastic bottles????Here at Crawford Childcare in Glanmire we aim to promote outdoor play. We are very fortunate to have 2 large play areas as well as 2 large grass areas. We are currently looking at adding to one of these grass areas to create a play space and garden using natural materials. Many of you have probably spotted the tyres donated by More Tyres and Alan’s Tyres which we are using to define distinct areas as well as the large tractor tyres we use as sand and mud pits donated by one of families at the creche! This…

Road Safety at Crawford

Road Safety at Crawford Recently Joan Ann from the Road Safety Authority came to visit us at the Crawford Childcare to tell us all about how to be safe on the roads with our children. A lot of people forget about simple things like, does your child know what colour the reverse light on your car? Often children don’t. She advised it might be better to reverse into a space rather than driving into it, something so simple like this can reduce the child fatalities we are having on Irish roads. The Back to School Campaign has returned this year and the RSA are sending out free high visibility…

Whatever the weather it’s all fun in the Baby Room

Whatever the weather it’s all fun in the Baby Room In the baby room at Crawford Childcare in Glanmire we have noticed that Mother Nature keeps changing her mind regarding the weather. So instead of planning for a sunny or rainy day the babies have decided to prepare for both by making some colourful sun/ rain umbrellas. The umbrellas will be used for some ‘Singing in the rain’ as well as keeping us shaded for when ‘Mr Sun does shine down’. We used paper plates and lollipop sticks to make our multi purpose umbrellas. Ellie and Roisin really enjoyed choosing their rainbow colours for their umbrellas. While we were making our brollies it began to…
